Drawing up an inventory of the collection, designing a plan for conservation and care.
Restoring paintings and objects with a paintlayer. When we plan a restoration or conservation we always take the art object as a starting point. What has happened to it? What measures can be taken without harming its intrinsic value? Naturally we take into account the specific wishes of the client and what’s possible from a financial point of view, everything in accordance with the solutions we can offer. We have a great deal of experience in working for private individuals, museums and other institutions. We handle paintings (on cloth, panel, metal, glass, etc.), polychrome objects, wall paper, draperies and banners.
Preventive conservation is the improvementent of storage conditions of art objects in order to avoid the necessity of restoration.
The conditions of storage, also called factors of environment, consist of all the factors around or surrounding the art object or collection. These elements should not be allowed to influence an art object or collection in a negative way.
A great deal of the damages shown on our website are the result of conditions as mentioned above, damp or dry environments or strong fluctuations in relative humidity or temperature.
Circumstances of storage have been widely investigated in order to reach an idea of ideal conditions of storage. It’s a field of knowledge in development, with the realisation of new equipment and techniques, the increasing knowledge of materials used in art and the sharing of practical experiences. The knowledge we have of conditions of storage is increasing every year.
A different approach is needed for a collection of paintings as compared to individual paintings, because it is more difficult to get a clear view of the situation. It is relatively simple to describe the condition of one individual painting, with a proposal for treatment and advice for the conditions of storage. It is more complicated to get an overall view and general idea of the situation of a collection, and how it should be kept and cared for.
Apart from management of the collection by means of registration, documentation, financial management, planning of expositions, the collection should be maintained and cared for.
We like to deal with the description of the conditional status of your collection in a schematic way. First we make an inventory of the material situation of each painting and present it in reports and graphs. There will be an investigation into environmental aspects and storage conditions of the collection. An advice for preservation will then be based on these reports.
